Focus Classes
The Focus classes are designed for the dog that has its own agenda when
you're trying to teach a behaviour, work a sequence, or run a course. This
class is for the dog that leaves you to ...... follow a scent, visit a
friend on the sidelines (doggy or human), target someone elses toys/treats/kit bags
..... in general this class is for a dog that is not focussed on YOU!
This is not an agility class, nor is it an obedience class. The class is
designed to work on one area - "focus". To that end, the class
incorporates many different behaviours, most of which your dog already knows. We'll be
using "It's Your Choice" games to teach the dog that to get what "it"
wants, it must first do what "we" want. We'll be using shaping exercises to teach
both you and the dog to concentrate (focus!). Above all, we'll be teaching
the dog Self-Control!
This class WILL involve homework; approximately 10 to 15 minutes each
day. You will be required to document the homework you do.
This will be an intensive class (focussed ), so please do not sign
up if you're not prepared to put in the time to do the homework.
If you do not already have one, you will be required to purchase a Gentle
Leader for your dog (information about the Gentle Leader and where it can
be purchased will be provided at the first lesson).
The class will also include the cost of a companion training book. The
class will run for 7 weeks, and costs $150 (no discounts).
Prerequisites:
Dogs must be non-aggressive toward other dogs (and people!). Dogs must be at least 8 months of age.
Dream Fields Focus Classes are organized
into 7 week sessons: Focus Level 1 and Focus Level 2.
